pics of Sonya and Igor

Here some cute pictures of Sonya and boys. She bought this cake for dessert last night. When she cut it she was surprised to find that the cake was some kind of a hard sugar meringue kind of thing that was really yucky. It was decorated nice but kind of a cross between Styrofoam and hard marshmallows. She is not thrilled with Ukrainian food at this time.
PS she made yummy mashed potatoes and chicken and we got to see the deluxe apartment they are staying in. So glad that we are not going through this alone.

  1. I totally forgot how deceiving their baked goods are! They look so great until the first bite! I would have thought I'd have lost a lot of weight during my six week pilgrimage to the edge of civilization but I really like the blintz's and dumplings.
The hospital pictures make me cringe! I think I'll go wash my hands right now as I may have picked something up just viewing your blog. Eeekk.
How sad that the children are so hungry. We learned from Alex that he was often hungry. Not so much in the orphanage but in his neglected life before. I'm sure that attributes to his eating everything in sight issues. You would think he would be wearing husky sized pants as opposed to the hard to find 14 slims based on his food consumption.
If you want some AMERICAN food be sure to hit TGI Fridays in Kiev. Get a hamburger. Heaven! Really. You can even order a soda with ice there.
Good luck at the SDA-what a pain. I had never felt so out of control in my whole life. In my line of work I write contracts and negotiate deals on paper. Never in my life would I sign something without reading it But in Ukraine? Just show me where to sigh so I can take my boy and go home! It's almost like living in another world isn't it?
And the fact that you are at the mercy of everyone's schedule and time frame and have no say. It's like being a toddler again-only footing the bill!
Thank you for posting. I promise to keep commenting as long as lame as my comments are if you keep blogging.
    Much love!

  2. I agree with Wendy about the desserts. My husband would get so excited to eat one and then he would take one bite and push it away. He also hated the filling in the rolls and would always try to find some without anything inside. He would swear he and found one, then two bites into it he would find he was wrong and spit it out. It was hilarious.

I love reading your posts, you crack me up.
