Monday May 24

Today was a holiday (which are as common as possible in Ukraine.) We got to have the kids all day. We picked them up and fed them breakfast and Tyler took the boys to a movie at 11 am. They saw in Russian a movie called " my terrible Nana" which was about a babysitter that turned out to be a hero.

Before the movie Dave sat the boys down and we gave them some rules that we are calling customs of America or something to help them prepare for life in our family. We told them that we would give them new ones periodically and they were happy to hear them and it was great to see how quickly they were able to adapt. The rules for today were try to a better shot in the bathroom, Ask Mama before we eat things, and use a cup when we get drinks and not drink out of the bottle.
We ate Borscht for lunch (Yes I made entirely too much of that) and then went to the park at Mir Square where they had a blow up slide and a playground and trampoline that you can pay to jump on and some little motorized motorcycle/4 wheeler type bikes. Vitaly jumped for a few minutes and Oleg headed for the motorized motorcycle. His first run around the track he turned to sharp and biffed it on the ground. This caused the handle cover to come off of the bike and the owner was mad. I was nervous about him finding out that we were American and charging us to death for repairs. We let Tyler handle in and left soon to catch the bus to the Corbetts. We went to their house and ate dinner that Sonya prepared so gracefully in this strange land. Then to top off the evening we went to the hospital to see Andre. I will post pictures of that place soon. Prepare to be flabbergasted.
All is well
Tomorrow we go to Kiev, Hooray

  1. Better shot in the bathroom! hahaha...your posts keep us giggling. When you get home, the 1st 3 months are literally like raising a couple of toddlers, teaching them so many things that your other kids learned when they were 2. Have you worked out what their names are going to in America?

Speaking of Corbetts, tell them to hop on their blog and let us all know how things are going. I'm sure they are very busy and probably a bit overwhelmed. Let them know we're all thinking about them and are anxious to know how things with Andrew and Igor are going.

  2. Yes, I second Horlachers! I've been afraid that Sonya has succumbed to some terrible germ/disease over there as her blog has been so silent!
Good job laying down rules and even better job of leaving the door open to more rules in the future!
You might want to mention-early-that in America used TP goes DOWN the toilet not in the garbage can-that was a fun one for us to work on with our dog dragging yucky TP all over the house!
Did Oleg get hurt? What did I tell you?? In America the owner would be more worried about being sued than cursing over his broken bike. (Although I think America could do without so many law suites!)
As always, good to hear from you. Enjoy this holiday as with any luck you'll be home before the next one next month!

  3. Hum. I sent you a comment but it's not there. Maybe I have used my allotted comment limit? Heaven knows you would have every right to cut me off!
Rather than send it again-like last time-I'm going to see if it shows up anytime soon.....

  4. See? It's there again! Just as soon as I hit post comment, the first comment magically appeared. How very bizarre. Maybe blogger is on holiday like the rest of Ukraine?
    Happy Monday!

  5. Wendy,
Cut you off? Now that is hilarious!! You comments are what make us get up in the morning. Please send as many as you can. They are the shot in the arm we need. Sonya is really sorry that she isn't blogging yet. They have been sick and without internet. Tyler got it running at their apt last night and so hopefully you will see some posts soon. I will try to download pics of them soon. Thanks again for the awesome encouragement and wisdom.
