Dave called and talked to Oksana in Ukraine. He asked if she had sent the accounting that she promised us so many times as we kept giving her more and more money. Each time she would ask for a few thousand dollars more, we asked what it was going to pay for. She would just respond with "You have to trust me, I will give you a written accounting when we get to Kiev." When I asked for it in Kiev, before we left, she promised to mail it to us. When Dave talked to her recently she said that she hadn't mailed it because "her agency" (Adoptionway) told her not to give us an accounting. I am not sure why they don't want us to know where all our money went. We are not sure why they are even involved since we fired them a long time ago.
P.S. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad that we ended our relationship with these people. Since we have been home, I have had numerous people come to me and tell me how they were lied to and cheated by Adoptionway. Several people have told me that they believe that they only care about the money and not the families or the children. They lied to us a few times in the short time that we worked with them and while in Ukraine we saw evidence that they were lying to a lot of other families.

Our experience (we never involved an adoption agency) has been that the facilitor here has explained were every dollar we have given her has been spent. The baseline cost was written down to begin with (we were told that the cost very and it may be more or less).
ReplyDeleteThere is an element of trust involved as we dont really know what the costs are, but I feel that we have been and are being treated honestly and fairly.
It does seem strange that an adoption agency that you DIDN'T use would be involved in you getting an accounting of where your money went.
It is hard enough without feeling that you have been taken for a ride.Hopefully, you can get the accounting so you can feel better about that part of your experience.
Hopefully, other will find your difficulty in getting an accounting helpful when deciding how go about adopting a child.
The part of our adoption where we used the people that Cathy Harris hired for us were very honest and the best part of our adoption. When Irina went to Kostya and begged him to hire Oksana in the region he emailed us and asked what we thought. He didn't know her but we made the mistake of agreeing to work with someone affiliated with the agency that we had lost confidence in and fired because we had heard good things about her from others. We saw several things that were very disturbing but they were not from our experience with Kostya and Cathy Harris. They were completely honest and fair and I would strongly encourage anyone to work with them on future adoptions.

ReplyDeleteIt just makes no sense to me. We did have a very positive experience with Oksana and why in the world the adoption agency you didn't use, is dictating to her what she can and cannot do-is insane!
